week 4 blog-Online Communities

In this blog i will be discussing online communities. The fans of my favourite murder are known as Murderino’s. They express their fandom by communicating on online communities such as Facebook and Twitter.

so what is an online community? Howard Rheingold describes an online communities in A Slice of Life in My Virtual Community as

a group of people who may or may not
meet one another face to face, and who exchange words and ideas through the mediation
of computer bulletin boards and networks. In cyberspace, we chat and argue, engage in
intellectual intercourse, perform acts of commerce, exchange knowledge, share emotional
support, make plans, brainstorm, gossip, feud, fall in love, find friends and lose them,
play games and metagames, flirt, create a little high art and a lot of idle talk. We do
everything people do when people get together, but we do it with words on computer
screens, leaving our bodies behind.

The comments on these sites would indicate that the fans engage with each other and the duo quite a lot in the offline world.

A lot of the engagement with the duo online included fan art, likes, re-shares etc.

I think the Murderino engage in all aspect that are described as been online community behaviour and i think they do so in a positive way. Online communities seem to be a way in which to keep your fanbase growing and crucial way to share your content.
